O2 sensor lambda works


An oxygenis a sensor based on optical measurement of the oxygen concentration. Lambda sensors can be divided into two non-interchangeable types Zirconia Sensors and Titania Sensors. O2 sensor works like a miniature generator and produces its own voltagewhen it gets hot.


Oxygen sensors are now critical in modern vehicles engine management and emission control systems. There are two different types of oxygen sensors that differ in the output signal.

ECU to adjust the mix without a lot of overshoot and guess work. The voltage signal is proportional to the amount of unburned oxygen in the exhaust.

O2 sensor ensures that your engine is running at top performance. HOWEVER although some systems MAY require you to clear the error code in another way. Vedis II had a PID that gave the air-fuel ratio sensor as Lambda. A wideband O2 sensor on the other hand is designed to read a much broader spectrum of air to fuel ratios (The Haltech CAN wideband reads accurately from 10:1 – 20:1 air fuel ratio) which makes it the ideal tool for engine calibration. Since 2003 PLX Widebands have pioneered in wideband oxygen sensor technology and internal combustion engine tuning. Oxygen sensors also require being heated in order to work properly. I have done it before on a different car with just two pins coming from the sensor and you put each probe on the multimeter on seperate pins and then read the output. It measures the air⁄fuel ratio of exhaust gases over a wide lambda range. The oxygen sensor is governed by an OBD (on board diagnostic) system that reports when the sensor has failed. The main way that you will know if you have a faulty oxygen sensor is that the check engine light in the vehicle will come on. F (about 300o) it will begin to produce voltage ranging from 100 to 600 millivolts. This is the OEM Bosch oxygen sensor (lambda sensor) for E30 318is with M42 engine.
